Watch: Moeen Ali traps Virat Kohli with an outrageous turning delivery; gives a stare send-off

It was the 11th time that Moeen Ali dismissed Virat Kohli across formats.

The 49th group stage match of IPL 2022 between Chennai and Bangalore at Pune saw the clash of two Indian heavyweights in Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni. In the end, it was Kohli who ended up on the winning side by scoring some much-needed runs for RCB.

However, more than the runs Kohli made, it was the brilliant dismissal that CSK’s Moeen Ali inflicted on him which features as our highlight from the RCB vs CSK match.

Virat had started off the match with a good display of intent, managing to forge a valuable 62-run opening partnership with captain Faf du Plessis. But a couple of quick subsequent dismissals on the other end forced him to play with a little more caution. Nevertheless, he did manage to settle in eventually, and batting at 30 off 32 balls in the 10th over, the time looked prime for Kohli to launch into attack against Moeen Ali.

Moeen Ali manages to outfox Virat Kohli with a special delivery

As it turned out, though, Moeen managed to produce a top-class off-spin delivery that completely outfoxed Virat and sent him back on his way. On the fifth ball of the over, Moeen pitched a delivery on the off-stump line that turned sharply and crashed into Kohli’s leg-stump.

It’s quite uncommon to say a batsman with the class of Kohli look so utterly out-of-sorts against a spinner, and it was quite evident from the puzzled reaction he had on his face.  Moeen, meanwhile, savored the wicket to the fullest extent and even gave his former RCB captain an intense staring send-off. Here’s the video of the incident:

Match Summary

Despite Moeen enjoying a pleasant all-round performance on his comeback into the Chennai fold, his efforts fell short in helping secure a win for his team. Mahipal Lomror led RCB’s batting charge with a 27-ball 42 and powered the men-in-red to a competitive score of 173/8. Chennai started off well in response to the run-chase, but the loss of some quick wickets in their middle order really derailed their cause. Harshal Patel (3/35) led Bangalore’s bowling charge, as they went on to win by 13 runs and pick up their sixth win of this season.
