Mumbai Indians’ off spinner Hrithik Shokeen dismissed Kolkata Knight Riders’ skipper Nitish Rana in the IPL 2023 game on April 16. After the dismissal, Hrithik Shokeen gave Rana a send-off after which the left-handed batter got furious and verbally abused Shokeen as MI stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav had to intervene.

Nitish Rana was batting along with the in-form Venkatesh Iyer and was looking to form a partnership for the third wicket after KKR lost the wickets of opener Gurbaz and Jagadeesan. However, the KKR skipper couldn’t contribute much as he was departed for just 5 runs after playing 10 deliveries.

Hrithik Shokeen and Nitish Rana engage in a war of words, Suryakumar Yadav intervenes

Kolkata Knight Riders were scoring at a decent rate courtesy of the aggressive batting by Venkatesh Iyer. MI stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav called in off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen to bowl the 9th over in order to restrict the flow of runs.

Hrithik Shokeen bowled a flighted delivery around the off-stump channel as Nitish Rana went down the wicket to search for a boundary. The KKR skipper couldn’t connect his shot properly as the ball got the elevation but not the kind of distance he was looking for as substitute fielder Ramandeep Singh took a comfortable catch at the long-on boundary.

After the dismissal, Nitish Rana started walking towards the pavilion while Shokeen went close to him and spoke a few words. The MI spinner also gave him a send-off after which Nitish Rana got furious and lost his calm.

Nitish Rana then charged at the MI bowler leading to a furious argument as the KKR skipper verbally abused Hrithik Shokeen. Just when things looked going out of control, Mumbai Indians’ stand-in skipper Suryakumar Yadav quickly intervened in the matter and pulled Nitish Rana away.

Leg spinner Piyush Chawla too came in to calm down Rana as the KKR skipper was seen angrily pointing towards Shokeen before he turned around to walk towards the dugout. While Nitish Rana didn’t have a great game with the bat, Venkatesh Iyer played scintillating for the KKR franchise.

Venkatesh Iyer scored a brilliant ton off just 49 deliveries as he eventually finished with a 51-ball 104 and took the KKR total to 185-6 as a lone warrior. He became the first KKR batter since Brendon McCullum to score a hundred in IPL who had scored a ton in the inaugural game of IPL 2008.
