The Pakistan skipper faces fans' backlash as he fails to score in the crucial innings.

Babar Azam departed for just one run in the second innings of the second test against England and was on the receiving end of criticism from Pakistan fans.

Pakistan fans chant ‘Zimbabar, Zimbabar’ as Babar departs cheaply

Pakistan is facing England in the second test at Multan after facing defeat in the Rawalpindi Test. Pakistan are chasing a 355-run target to level the three-match series and needed their skipper Babar Azam to anchor through the innings. However, they were certainly displeased with the way Azam lost his wicket.

The Pakistan skipper left an outside off good-length delivery bowled by England pacer Ollie Robinson as the ball went on to crash his off stump. While Babar was on his way back to the pavilion, some Pakistan fans took a dig at his low score with chants of “Zimbabar, Zimbabar” as they were hurt by Babar Azam’s dismissal. The video of this incident has gone viral on social media and Pakistan fans have faced backlash for treating their skipper with such harsh chants.

It’s worth noting that Babar Azam and some other Pakistan batters have faced criticism in the past for scoring heavily against Zimbabwe but not scoring in the same manner against top-ranked sides. Babar couldn’t score enough runs for his side in Asia Cup and World Cup 2022 in Australia and Pakistan team now requires his contribution against the mighty English side.

The England team continued their ‘Bazball’ approach against Pakistan in Multan as they scored 275 runs in just 64 overs and gave Pakistan a total of 355 runs to level the three-match series. English batter Harry Brook continued his sublime form with the bat as he scored a quick-fire 108 in just 149 deliveries.

Pakistan are now placed at 198-4 at the stumps of day three and they still require 157 runs to overcome the total set by England. Saud Shakeel and Faheem Ashraf will continue the innings on the fourth day and the Pakistan fans will expect their team to chase down the total as they still have a couple of capable batsmen yet to bat.
