Watch: RCB keeper-batsman Mohammed Azharuddeen scores a freakish run out in local Kerala tournament.

RCB Azharuddeen run out: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) latest Indian uncapped recruit Mohammed Azharuddeen has been making all the right noises in the domestic circuit. Following a fruitful Syed Mushtaq Ali (SMAT) 2021 season, where he accumulated 214-runs at 53.50; promising Kerala ‘keeper-bat has been turning up with a spirited display of skills in the ongoing KCA T20 Cup.

26-year-old Azharuddeen quickly rose to fame earlier this year when he compiled a fine 54-ball 137-run knock against Mumbai in the SMAT. Shortly after that performance, Azhar’s bucket list of dreams and aspirations went viral on social media. One of those aspirations happened to be able to participate in this year’s edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

And that dream finally became a reality on the auction-day; thanks to RCB raising a bid for the talented batsman and acquiring him at his base price of INR 20 Lakhs. Ever since then, RCB fans had been itching to see their newbie team member in action. However, Azhar couldn’t quite find his purple patch in the recently concluded Vijay Hazare Trophy. In an overall middling campaign for Kerala, the young gloveman could only manage 2 fifties across 6-matches.

But it seems as though Azhar has found his mojo back right ahead of the upcoming IPL season- both with the bat and gloves. Plying his trade for the Eagles against the Tuskers, Azhar produced a sensational fielding effort that left fans utterly awestruck.

Chasing 168, the Tuskers’ batsmen were looking to score quick singles to reach the target. One such attempt of collecting a single saw the batsman parrying the ball towards the cover region. Eagles’ in-fielder Rabin Krishnan made a spirited dash and lobbed the ball right back at the stumps.

The throw from Krishnan was a bit too airborne, but Azhar attempted a valiant dive and successfully collected the ball! And to top off this stunning effort, he completed a rapid back-dive and dislodged the bails off in record speed. Sreenath, the Tuskers’ batsman in question, looked totally flabbergasted and fell well short of making his ground. Here’s how the freakish dismissal unrolled on-field:

Besides his stunning wicket-keeping skills, Azhar also contributed heavily to the Eagles’ batting with a 43-ball inning of 69. His knock included 4 boundaries and as many sixes. In response, the Tuskers could only manage 124/8 and lost the encounter by 43-runs.
