Indian captain Rohit Sharma was not a happy man after a terrible mix-up between Ravindra Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan resulted in a silly run-out during Day 1 of the third Test match against England in Rajkot. Sarfaraz Khan who has been waiting so long to get an opportunity to play for India was warming the bench in the Vizag Test recently. However, with Shreyas Iyer getting axed from the team due to poor form and with KL Rahul getting ruled out of the Rajkot Test due to a sore knee, there were plenty of loopholes in the middle-order.

However, Sarfaraz Khan’s turn finally came as he made his Test debut in the Rajkot Test. Coming out to bat at No.5, the right-handed batter took some time to get settled at the crease. However, once he assessed the conditions, he went about his work by taking the bowling attack to the cleaners. The Mumbai-born cricketer made his presence count on his debut by letting his bat do all the talking.

Rohit Sharma throws his cap after Sarfaraz Khan’s unfortunate run-out

Sarfaraz Khan brought up his fifty off just 48 balls, thus becoming the joint-second fastest fifty by an Indian cricketer. Just as when everything was going smoothly, a terrible mix-up between Ravindra Jadeja and Sarfaraz Khan, led to a silly run-out dismissal as the heartbroken debutant made his way back to the dressing room with a long face. Soon after that, Rohit Sharma threw his cap in anger and the video clip has gone viral on the internet.

The incident happened during the penultimate ball of the 82nd over when Ravindra Jadeja tried to steal a single, while he was batting on 99. However, he realized a little late that he hit the ball straight to Mark Wood, who was positioned at the extra cover. Mark Wood picked up the ball and hit the bull’s eye at the non-striker’s end. Sarfaraz Khan responded to Jadeja’s call by making quick strides.

Jadeja who initially made up his mind to take the single turned his partner down immediately. While Sarfaraz Khan was trying to get back to the non-striker’s end, the damage had already been done. It was such a heartbreaking sight to see Sarfaraz Khan getting dismissed for 62 (9 fours, 1 six) as he was well set for a big knock on his debut. Meanwhile, Team India ended Day 1 with 326/5. Rohit Sharma top-scored with 131 (14 fours and 3 sixes) whereas Ravindra Jadeja remains unbeaten on 110* (9 fours and 2 sixes).
