South Africa failed to keep up with Australia’s tenacity, aggression, and intensity throughout the T20I series earlier. Proteas played right into the hands of the Aussies and paid the price in the three-match T20I series. Despite playing in overseas conditions, the Men in Yellow didn’t give any snippet of breathing space for the hosts to go for the kill.

Mitchell Marsh’s Australian side had an incisive cutting edge in the series and rightly so, they ended up inflicting a 3-0 whitewash on the hosts. When the action shifted towards the five-match ODI series, the Aussies continued the momentum from where they left off as they won the first two games to take a 2-0 lead in the series. Temba Bavuma-led Proteas eventually got off the mark with a surreal win over Australia in the must-win encounter.

Sean Abbott takes a one-handed scorcher to dismiss Marco Jansen

South Africa clinched a comprehensive 111-run win over Australia at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom and steered clear of trouble for the time being. The highlight of the game was when Australia’s Sean Abbott took an absolute peach of a one-handed catch to get rid of Marco Jansen. The incident happened during the fourth ball of the 47th over off Nathan Ellis’ bowling.

Marco Jansen was trying his maximum best to score runs at a rate of knots as South Africa were rushing in the fag end of the overs. Jansen who was batting on 32 off 15 balls (4 fours and a six) tried to hit a six or a four off Nathan Ellis. As it turned out, Sean Abbott pulled off a one-handed scorcher near the boundary rope. His breathtaking effort took everyone by surprise including Marco Jansen who was in total disbelief.

Talking about the game, South Africa posted a humongous total of 338 for the loss of six wickets in their designated quota of 50 overs. Aiden Markram was the pick of the batters as he chipped in with an unbeaten 102 off 74 balls where he struck 9 fours and 4 hits over the fence.

Quinton de Kock scored 82 off 77 (10 fours, 2 sixes) whereas skipper Temba Bavuma scored 57 off 62 including six fours. In reply, Australia were bowled out for 227 runs and lost the game by a huge margin. David Warner top-scored with 78 off 56 balls including 10 fours and 3 sixes.
