India women’s U19 team conquered the inaugural U19 T20 World Cup title by defeating England women’s U19 side by seven wickets at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom on January 29.
Skipper Shafali Verma couldn’t hold on to her emotions after the grand victory as she was seen in tears ahead of her interview with the official broadcaster.

Shafali Verma was super proud of the fact that her team clinched the inaugural women’s U19 T20 World Cup title. Shafali took some time in responding to the broadcaster’s questions as she got emotional just after the historic victory.
“The way all the girls are performing and backing each other, so happy. Incredible feeling. Thanks to the staff, the way they have been backing us everyday and telling us that we are here for the cup and because of them we are here. All thanks to them. The players have been backing me a lot,“ Shafali said at the presentation ceremony, with tears in her eyes.
“Thanks to BCCI for giving me this beautiful team and really happy for winning the cup. She (Shweta Sehrawat) has been excellent and has followed all the plans of the staff. Not just her, Archana, Soumya and I can’t really take the names but they all have been incredible,” she further added.
The Indian women’s team dominated the final game right from the word go as they bowled out the England women’s team at a score of just 68 runs in 17.1 overs. Titas Sadhu (2/6), Parshavi Chopra (2/13) and Archana Devi (2/17) made sure that the English team didn’t get any significant partnerships as they kept on taking wickets at regular intervals.
Indian women’s team chased down the total posted by England in just 14 overs courtesy of Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha’s calm and sensible knocks as they both scored 24 each and didn’t let English bowlers get into the game after losing both the openers. Titas Sadhu who picked up two crucial wickets and gave away just 6 runs in his four-over spell was adjudged as the player of the match.
