Warwickshire defeated Nottinghamshire by 2 wickets in the Vitality T20 Blast 2023 game on June 30 at Trent Bridge. In the Warwickshire vs Nottinghamshire game, star pacer Shaheen Afridi scalped four wickets in his first over and became the first bowler ever to do so in the history of T20 cricket.

Afridi took the wicket of skipper Alex Davies on the first delivery of Warwickshire innings. He then got rid of Chris Benjamin, Dan Mousley and Ed Barnard in the same over and stunned the opponents and cricket fans with his exceptional bowling.

Afridi came in to bowl the first over for Nottinghamshire and dismissed opener Alex Davies lbw with a toe-crushing yorker. The Pakistan pacer then bowled out Chris Benjamin for a golden duck as he was looking to play a scoop towards the fine leg region but couldn’t make any contact with the ball.

On the 5th delivery of Shaheen’s over, Dan Mousley got a driving length but he played it straight into the hands of Olly Stone at covers who didn’t make any mistake in grabbing the ball. The Nottinghamshire pacer then bowled a fullish delivery to Ed Barnard who got beaten by the swing as the ball crashed onto his off stump.

As he took the wicket of Barnard, Shaheen Afridi became the first ever bowler in the history of T20 cricket to scalp four wickets in the first over. He eventually finished with the figures of 4-29 in his four-over spell and was awarded the Player of the Match award.

Vitality Blast shared the video of the heroic bowling spell by the Nottinghamshire pacer on their official Twitter handle. “Shaheen Afridi, you cannot do that!!” they wrote as the caption.

The star left-arm pacer has scalped 20 wickets in 13 games in the Vitality T20 Blast 2023 with an exceptional economy rate of 8.65. However, despite his brilliant spell Warwickshire defeated Nottinghamshire by 2 wickets as they chased down the target of 169 runs in just 19.1 overs.

While they had a terrible start to their innings courtesy of the incredible first over bowled by Shaheen Afridi, it was opener Robert Yates who kept playing his shots from the other end. Yates scored 65 runs off just 46 deliveries including 5 maximums and played a crucial role in the chase against Nottinghamshire.
