West Indies star all-rounder Andre Russell has expressed his desire regarding making his comeback for West Indies and has clarified that if he needs to miss a couple of franchise cricket tournaments he will have no issues missing them.

Russell plays a vital role for many franchises in league cricket due to the hitting power he has as well as the wicket-taking ability which makes him the best fit in any condition. Russell last played an international match in 2021 and was among the players who were not even considered for the 2022 T20 World Cup squad. Although West Indies have failed to qualify for the 2023 World Cup in India, Russell has expressed his desire to represent West Indies once again.

Andre Russell eyes to play 2024 T20 World Cup

“I am available. I want to be a part of the next World Cup so that would be something special to me if they can add me to the squad,” Russell told the Jamaica Observer.

“I am willing to play a couple of series to make myself available. I am not just going to turn up and say I want to play at the World Cup from nothing at all.”

“I know how everything works; I know I have to sacrifice a couple leagues in order to play for West Indies. I am willing to do that and try to give them the best chance in the World Cup, and whatever I can contribute in whatever area, I am willing to do it.”

“There is an India series coming up that I would want to be a part of but no one has said anything to me and I am just minding my own business. I am just doing what I am doing — still training hard,” he added

Timeline of West Indies since Russell last played

Russell last played an international match during the 2021 T20 World Cup in UAE, since then West Indies have failed to qualify in the play-offs of every ICC event that has happened including the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia and now they have not been able to even qualify to take part in the upcoming ODI World Cup in India. Since the experienced players of West Indies have stepped down from International Cricket, Cricket West Indies (CWI) have seen a rapid downfall in every format of the game.
