In an announcement that not many had seen coming, former Indian team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni stunned the cricket world by announcing his retirement from international cricket. The news comes at a time when international cricket is at a halt due to the ongoing pandemic, and Dhoni having taken a break from the game for over a year. After quitting international cricket, one more question is arising in the minds of the fans, “Will MS Dhoni Play IPL 2020 And IPL 2021?
And the answer to the question “Will Dhoni Play IPL 2020” is yes. He is only retired from International cricket and going to continue to play in Indian Premier League. However, according to the sources, he may end his IPL career if CSK wins the title in the 2020 season.
What’s Next For Dhoni?
After announcing his retirement from international cricket, Dhoni can now aim to win the IPL 2020 and end his playing career on a high. Although there was a buzz of his retirement doing the rounds for around a year now, not many had seen it coming until the World T20 Championship of this year. But a postponement due to the ongoing pandemic could probably have led to Dhoni make his decision.
Once done as a player, Dhoni could also fit into a management role at CSK. He’s been associated with the franchise and has been an integral part of it since day one, and is well versed with its functioning.
Retirement News Came As a Surprise
The news of MS Dhoni’s retirement took most people by surprise. It was a regular practice session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday which Dhoni saw through. Within 30 minutes of the session, the team management learnt of the news and asked Dhoni about it. The management acknowledged his decision. “His decision completely took us by surprise but he showed no emotions. He was as cool and calm as ever.”
CSK Want Dhoni As A Player
In the meanwhile, the Chennai Super Kings would want Dhoni to lead the team for as long as he’d wish to. Although he has quit international cricket, his services to CSK as a player are still active. “He has quit international cricket only. He is going to play for CSK. We want him to play for us as long as he wants. In fact, we plan to retain him as a player after the 2021 IPL.”, says franchise CEO Kasi Vishwanath.
