After MS Dhoni’s retirement from test cricket in 2014, selectors had given Wriddhiman Saha the chance as wicket-keeper. He succeeded to settle his place in the team and became the first choice of wicket-keeper in tests. But in 2018, he faced a shoulder injury and following he saw a downfall in his career.

34-year old was replaced by young and prominent wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant who impressed everyone in a short period. After smashing centuries in England and Australia, Pant became the first choice of wicket-keeper in test and Saha started disappearing from selectors’ sight.

However, Wriddhiman Saha performed brilliantly with the bat in domestic cricket and forced selectors to pick him as the back-up of Rishabh Pant. On the other hand, Pant has been inconsistent since becoming the first choice for wicket-keeper in all three formats. It cost him his place in test playing eleven. Before South Africa series, Virat Kohli had announced that Wriddhiman Saha will keep the wickets in all 3 matches.
