India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is well known as a fun-loving free spirit. His fun antics, both on and off the field, have captured the attention of fans and fellow players alike.
But something that adds to the humor of Yuzi’s jokes is that often times, they end up hilariously backfiring on himself! From being ‘greeted’ by Martin Guptill in a post-match interview, to being notified about his gatecrashing on ‘Cheeku bhaiya’s’ Instagram live sessions; it’s fair to say that whenever Chahal is involved, the comedy can end up going either way.
Over on a recent YouTube talk show segment with his India colleague Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzi revealed how one of his adventurous pursuits almost got him into an emergency medical situation. The seasoned leggie revealed that during Mumbai Indians’ celebration of the 2011 Champions League victory, he played a funny dare game with his teammates Andrew Symonds and James Franklin.
The said game involved Yuzi trying to break free from the ropes his mates had tied around his arms and legs. Except things didn’t quite go as planned.
“Andrew Symonds and James Franklin tied me in ropes; forgot they taped my mouth”- Chahal
“It happened in 2011 when Mumbai Indians won the Champions League. Andrew Symonds drank a lot of “fruit juice” during a party. He tied my hands and James Franklin tied my legs. The task for me was to open it,” Yuzvendra Chahal explained.
“But then, they forgot that they had put a tape on my mouth. The next morning, a cleaner came and saw me and got me out of it,” Chahal revealed, much to Ashwin’s surprise and amusement.
When asked about how he would feel about going back to his first franchise from his early IPL days, Chahal seemed quite open about the proposal. Although he did mention the caveat that he would love to back in the RCB camp if the chance presented itself.
“Obviously, I want to go to RCB again. But I won’t feel bad if I go somewhere else. All of them have to build new teams. Whoever takes me, I have no problem. I will continue to give my 100%. But yes, when you go to a new franchise, it takes a little time to adjust. But that’s why we call ourselves professional players”, Chahal explained.
