The leg-break bowler, Yuzvendra Chahal was not included in the T20 World Cup squad of India. This indeed was quite shocking as he is the leading wicket-taker for India in the T20s. The reason one of the selectors gave for not picking Chahal, seemingly has surprised the bowler. He has taken a dig at the selectors regarding the same, with a comment on Aakash Chopra’s post.

On being questioned by the media about the selection criteria of the spinners for the T20 World Cup 2021, BCCI’s chief selector Chetan Sharma came up with an interesting reply. He said that the spinners who bowl quickly were their priority. Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakravarthy, Axar Patel, and Rahul Chahar hence became the first choice spinners of the selectors.

Yuzvendra Chahal takes a dig at the selectors

Aakash Chopra who has seemingly analyzed the first 30 games of IPL 2020, posted on Twitter, few trends which he thinks will be seen in the 2021 edition as well. In one of his points he wrote,” Faster spinners likely to make an impact, Agree?”. To this Yuzvendra Chahal replied by commenting, “Faster spinner bhaiya? #justkidding”

Chahal’s comment went viral in no time as netizens could easily sense a dig at the selectors.

Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal was the only spinner in the list of Top 5 wicket-takers of the 2020 edition of IPL. IPL 2020 was played in the UAE where the upcoming T20 World Cup is to be played. Hence the omission of Chahal from the T20 World Cup due to the ‘fast spinner’ concept is not too justifiable.

Chahal’s form and T20I record

Though Chahal’s form had slightly declined over the past few months, the spinner had bowled brilliantly in the T20Is against Sri Lanka. Moreover, it was expected that Yuzvendra Chahal’s great overall T20I record will get him a place in the squad. With 63 wickets in 49 games, he is the leading wicket-taker for India in the shortest format of the game. Despite his brilliant stats, not finding a place in the World Cup squad would surely have disappointed the bowler. Currently, Chahal is in the RCB camp in the UAE, preparing for the second leg of IPL 2021.
