1 Ball, 18 Runs: TNPL bowler Abhishek Tanwar bowls most expensive delivery in Cricket History

Yesterday’s match between Chepauk Super Gillies and Salem Spartans was like a roller coaster ride for the viewers as it witnessed unexpected things, where the Spartans captain Abhishek Tanwar gave 18 runs on the final delivery of the first innings.

The repetition of mistakes happened on the last ball of the first innings where he bowled 3 consecutive no-balls conceding 2 massive sixes from Sanjay Yadav. His last ball error helped Chepauk put on a massive total of 217 on board for Salem Spartans to chase.

At the beginning of the final over of the first innings, Chepauk were at 191 runs, However, they ended up scoring 26 runs in that over with 18 runs coming from the last delivery. Abhishek bowled 3 no-balls and a wide on the final delivery giving away 18 runs. Abhishek ended his spell by giving away 44 runs including 1 wicket of Baba Aparajith. Tanwar who had the responsibility of bowling the most crucial over of the innings failed to deliver when needed the most.

Despite these multiple errors, Tanwar managed to avoid breaking the recording for conceding most runs in a  delivery. Clint McKay still holds the record as he gave away 20 runs in a single delivery during the 2012-13 Big Bash League (BBL) match between Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes.

The offbeat event left the fans and cricket experts amazed, with social media being the area of trash-talking for the users. This unwanted incident will be remembered by everyone and it will be written in the cricketing books.

The massive total of 217 was like a mountain to climb for the Salem Spartans playing XI, and while chasing this total Salem Spartans fell short by a big margin. In return, Salem Spartans only managed to score 165 runs. This incident happened during the second match of the TNPL 2023 which was being played at the SNR College Cricket Ground, Coimbatore.
