The ICC has finally opened the gates for the most in-demand passes of the T20 World Cup 2026, the semi-finals, and the final, and the timing could not be more dramatic. Ticket sales went live on Tuesday, February 24, at 7 PM IST, and from that moment, this tournament stopped being just about teams and qualification scenarios. It became about fans planning their biggest cricketing experience of the year.

The knockout matches are slated to be held on March 4, March 5, and March 8, respectively. On paper, that looks simple. In reality, the booking process comes with a fascinating twist: the venue for the first semi-final and even the final depends on Pakistan’s progress in the tournament.

T20 World Cup 2026: The floating semi-final that changes everything

Semi-final 1 does not belong to one city yet. It sits in a floating arrangement between Eden Gardens in Kolkata and the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

If Pakistan qualifies for the semi-finals, they will play that match in Colombo on March 4. That decision is already locked in. But if Pakistan fail to qualify and Sri Lanka reach the knockouts, and they are not facing India, then Colombo will still host the game.

In every other scenario, Kolkata gets the match. This kind of flexible scheduling is rare in global tournaments. But it reflects the political and logistical realities surrounding India-Pakistan fixtures. The organizers have built a structure that keeps all possibilities open while ensuring that the biggest games still happen in front of full stadiums.

The same conditional rule applies to the final. If Pakistan reach the title clash, the match moves from Ahmedabad to Colombo. If they do not, Ahmedabad hosts the biggest night of the tournament. For fans, this creates a unique situation. You are not just buying a ticket for a match; you are buying into a possible storyline.

Mumbai offers certainty

While Semi-final 1 lives in uncertainty, Semi-final 2 gives fans clarity in the first place. The match will kick off at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai regardless of which team qualifies. So, it makes it the safest option for supporters who want to lock in travel plans without worrying about venue changes.

No risk for early buyers

The ICC has also made one important promise — if you buy a ticket for a venue that does not end up hosting the match, you will receive a full refund. That assurance changes the entire strategy for fans.

Waiting for the finalists to be confirmed is no longer a smart move. By then, the official allocation will almost certainly be gone.

“If Pakistan qualifies for the semi-finals, Colombo’s R. Premadasa Stadium will replace Kolkata as the host of Semi-Final 1. Should Pakistan reach the final, that venue will also shift from Ahmedabad to Colombo. If India and Pakistan meet in the semi-finals, that match will be staged in Colombo, while Mumbai will host Semi-Final 2 involving India if they face any team other than Pakistan,” the previous release had mentioned.

Select the match — Semi-final 1, Semi-final 2, or the Final.

Choose your seating category.

Complete the online payment.

The latest announcement also clears up the confusion from the earlier schedule released in November. That version mentioned Pakistan’s matches being played in Sri Lanka but did not explain what would happen if Sri Lanka themselves reached the knockouts. Now, every possible scenario has a defined outcome. Fans can plan with more confidence, even if the venue remains conditional.

Team India, West Indies, and England are the most successful teams in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, with two titles each. India won in 2007 and 2024, West Indies lifted the trophy in 2012 and 2016, while England triumphed in 2010 and 2022. Pakistan (2009), Sri Lanka (2014), and Australia (2021) have won the tournament once each.
