A total of Rs 551.70 crore was spent in the IPL 2022 mega-auction last month, where 204 players were bought by the 10 franchises. The auction brought some big surprises as well, as some big names went unsold. However, we here have an interesting list of some top players who did find a buyer in the auction but might not get a chance to play this year.
Glenn Phillips (SRH)
The player to hit the most number of sixes in the shortest format last year, Glenn Phillips, was bought by SRH for his base price of INR 1.50 Cr. He was a part of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2021 where he got to play 3 matches. He could only manage 26 runs in those three games. With captain Williamson, Aiden Markram, and Nicholas Pooran being the must-picks in the playing XI for SRH, it would not be likely that Glenn Phillips gets an opportunity in IPL 2022. SRH would be utilizing the fourth slot by playing a foreign seamer, which would most probably be Marco Jansen.
Ajinkya Rahane (KKR)
Rahane did find a buyer in the mega-auction but whether he gets to play is not something we can be sure about. KKR bought the Indian top-order batsman for his base price of 1 Cr but looking at their squad, it seems tough for Rahane to find a place in the XI. Venketesh Iyer is set to be one of the openers for KKR and the second spot looks to be booked for Alex Hales. Shreyas Iyer and Nitish Rana would be their number 3 & 4.
Tim Southee (KKR)
KKR managed to bring in the leading wicket-taker for New Zealand, Tim Southee, into their side for his base price of 1 Cr. Despite his good run at the international level, it is highly unlikely that he gets to play a match in the upcoming season. Russell, Narine, and Cummins are the three automatic selections into the XI whereas the fourth foreigner spot might be taken by Alex Hales. Hence the kiwi pacer might just warm the bench next season.
Jimmy Neesham (RR)
Nathan Coulter-Nile, who has a similar sort of skillset as Jimmy Neesham, would be the first choice of Rajasthan as the fast-bowling allrounder option. Neesham hence would only get a chance in case the Australian all-rounder goes through a rough season. Neesham has played 12 IPL matches so far, scored 61 runs, and picked 8 wickets.

Mitchell Santner (CSK)
CSK bought back Mitchell Santner in the Auction for INR 1.90 Crore after a bidding tussle with SRH. Though the all-rounder has been doing well for his national side, he might not get an opportunity to play in IPL 2022. With Ravindra Jadeja already in the side, Santner would act as a replacement option for the Indian all-rounder. Santner was first bought by CSK back in 2018, the year when he didn’t get to play a game, as was the case last season. In 2019, Santner got to play 4 matches where he picked up 4 wickets and scored 32 runs. The next year, he was only given 2 games where he picked 2 wickets.
