The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has tied up with leading sports apparel and equipment brand, Adidas, to be the next Jersey Sponsor of Team India. Adidas will replace existing sponsor Killer Jeans and the BCCI will make the official announcement about the deal possibly in the next month.
Adidas replaces Killer Jeans as the Jersey Sponsor of Team India
Team India’s fans were quite eager for quite some time to see a brand that has some strong sports background as the official jersey partner of Team India. Finally, BCCI has come up with great news for Indian cricket fans as they will soon be watching their favorite cricketers wearing Adidas jersey.
It’s worth noting that since 2020, Team India didn’t have any leading sports brand on their jerseys. Major sports apparel brand Nike was Team India’s jersey sponsor for a span of five years. Nike had paid INR 370 Crores from 2016 to 2020 to the BCCI and produced some of the most liked jerseys sported by the Men in Blue.
After Nike, MPL Sports came on board with the BCCI as the title sponsor for Team India’s jersey. Their agreement was from November 2020 to December 2023 and they paid INR 65 lakh per match and INR 3 crore per year to the Indian cricket board. However, MPL Sports could not complete their three-year tenure.
Killer Jeans was then roped in as a filler by the BCCI as the title sponsor for Team India’s jersey. The apparel rights currently are with Kewal Kiran Clothing Limited, the parent brand of the company of Killer Jeans till May 2023.
The BCCI was keen to introduce a leading sports apparel brand as the new sponsor for Team India’s jersey as the previous sponsors didn’t look like an ideal match as they had no past sports background. The deal with the new sponsor, Adidas, will begin in June this year and will last till March 2028.
Adidas acquiring the apparel rights will possibly enhance the Indian cricket team’s brand value. The BCCI will take pride in having Adidas who is considered as one of the finest sports apparel brand globally as their stakeholder.
Adidas had earlier sponsored Mumbai Indians and England Cricket Team. In the current Indian team, skipper Rohit Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav and Rishabh Pant are sponsored by Adidas. Currently, it also sponsors Nottinghamshire, South East Stars and Surrey.
