Ireland will be hosting rivals Afghanistan this month for a 5-match T20 series. The series starts on August 9 and all the matches in the series will be played at the Civil Service Cricket Club ground, Belfast. It is worth mentioning that the tour has been cut short to the T20 series alone. The previously scheduled Test match and ODI series have been postponed as both the boards are currently focused on the shortest format of the game, keeping the upcoming T20 World Cup in mind. Post their T20 World Cup qualification, things haven’t gone well for the Ireland side. The side hasn’t managed to win a single game after their World T20 Qualifier semi-final win against Oman, which was back in February. Playing against some top T20 sides, Ireland has gone on to lose everything in the past few weeks. The side has lost 2-0 to India and subsequently 3-0 & 2-0 to New Zealand and South Africa. However, the Andrew Balbirnie-led Irish side would be looking to put up a fight against Afghanistan.

Afghanistan, on the other hand, would be playing an international game after a gap of almost 2 months. The last time Afghanistan played a T20I was during their white-ball tour to Zimbabwe, in June. The visiting side managed to defeat the hosts 3-0 back then.
