On Saturday, at a press conference at BCCI headquarters, Rohit Sharma and Ajit Agarkar announced the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad. Meanwhile, a personal chat between the two has gone viral on social media. Before the press conference began, Rohit Sharma was heard telling Ajit Agarkar that he would need to discuss BCCI’s new rules with the secretary.
It seems Rohit Sharma was unaware that the press conference was already being televised. Rohit was heard telling Ajit Agarkar, “Mere ko ek dedh ghanta baithna padega secretary ke sath iske baad. Family ka discussion ke liye. Sab (players) mere ko bol rahe hai” (I’ll have to sit with the secretary for about an hour or so after this, to discuss about new family guidelines. All players are calling me).”

Recently, BCCI has implemented strict rules and guidelines for players. According to these, players’ families, including wives and children, cannot stay with them for the entire duration of a tour. On tours lasting 45 days or more, families can join players for a maximum of 14 days, while on shorter tours, this duration is limited to just 7 days.
Additionally, BCCI has issued guidelines regarding travel, stating that during tours, players must travel exclusively in the team bus and not separately in personal vehicles. Along with this, BCCI has made it mandatory for players to participate in domestic cricket. Additionally, the board has also prohibited players from shooting brand advertisements during tours.
Devajit Saikia has recently replaced Jay Shah as the new BCCI secretary. Along with his appointment, he has enforced strict rules on the players. The Indian team’s performance has been below average in the past six months, including a home series loss to New Zealand and a 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. In light of this, BCCI officials have implemented stringent regulations.
