After team India’s debacle in the Asia Cup 2022, the squad is gearing up for their bilateral series against Australia, who will be touring India for a 3-match T20I series. The Indian team has only got 6 games to figure out their team combination before the big event in the form of T20 World Cup begins in Australia. Ashish Nehra picks his India’s squad for T20 World Cup
Team India’s campaign in the Asia Cup ended with the dead-rubber against Afghanistan on Thursday where the Indian team won by 101 runs. The team faced a lot of criticism from fans and former cricketers alike for the team combination they played in the tournament. Especially, the exclusion of Mohammed Shami, who is in great form, baffled the fans and now former Indian cricketer Ashish Nehra announces his squad for T20 WC, also leaving out Shami’s name.
For the unversed, Mohammed Shami was part of the Gujarat Titans in the 2022 edition of the IPL. The franchise won their maiden IPL title in their debut season and Shami was one of the primary reasons of their success in the tournament. Ashish Nehra, who was the head coach of the Gujarat Titans named his India squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup leaving out Shami, who many think should be a part of the squad in the shortest format.
Talking about the 15-man squad Ashish Nehra has picked, the top-3 are Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. The Top-3 is followed by Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravi Ashwin, Chahal, Dinesh Karthik, Bumrah, Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Deepak Hooda.
As for Shami’s exclusion, Ashish Nehra said, “One name comes in my mind and that is Mohammed Shami. Being a Test specialist, he hasn’t attracted that much focus from the selectors. And I am not saying this because I saw him up and close in Gujarat Titans. SKY should be in the eleven because you then have an alternative to Rishabh Pant. You can swap the two on 4 or 5.”
