India will kick off the T20I series against Bangladesh on October 6. The city of Gwalior will host the first match of the series, marking the return of international cricket to the city after a long break of 14 years. Meanwhile, India has suffered a setback ahead of the match in Gwalior, as Shivam Dube has been ruled out of the series due to a back injury.
Tilak Varma replaces Shivam Dube in Bangladesh T20s
Shivam Dube was part of India’s recent T20I series against Sri Lanka. Out of the three matches, Dube played in only one, where he scored 13 runs. He has been batting at the No. 6 position for India and also played a crucial role in the 2024 T20 World Cup.
The BCCI has named Tilak Varma as Dube’s replacement for the Bangladesh T20s. Tilak has been waiting for a year to return to India’s playing XI. He last played for India in the home T20I series against Australia in October 2023.
India will play three T20I matches against Bangladesh from October 6 to 12, scheduled to be held in Gwalior, Delhi, and Hyderabad. Suryakumar Yadav will lead India, having previously captained the team in 12 matches with an impressive record of 9 wins.
In today’s press conference, Suryakumar Yadav announced that Sanju Samson will open the innings alongside Abhishek Sharma. In the last series against Sri Lanka, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal opened, but both have been rested for the Bangladesh T20s. The Indian squad includes two rookies, Mayank Yadav and Nitish Reddy. Speedster Mayank Yadav is also expected to earn his maiden India cap in Gwalior.
