Cricket had evolved by leaps and bounds ever since its inception and the game that we watch today is very different from when it first came into existence. At the moment, league cricket is raking in moolah because of its fan-following around the world and different boards are really giving it a lot of attention. If reports are to be believed, BCCI may finally allow Indian players to play in foreign leagues after a restriction of so many years.
Indian players may be allowed to play in foreign leagues
In today’s generation, the shortest format of the game is the talk of the town and the fans look forward to witnessing the action that offers thrill and entertainment. Indian Premier League recently became one of the most expensive sports across the globe owing to its craze amongst the fans. Many other cricket-playing nations started their own league which got popular as well, however, Indian players have not been allowed to take part in them.
There have been a lot of talks regarding why Indian players are not allowed to participate in foreign leagues and fans have demanded time and again to allow players to be a part of different leagues other than just IPL. Interestingly, six IPL franchises have got teams in the CSA T20 league which has put pressure on BCCI to think about the possibility of sending Indian players to play in foreign leagues.
The immense popularity of the Indian Premier League is one of the primary reasons why BCCI is thinking over the topic, however, the final decision will be taken at the AGM which is going to be held in September. It will really be a great sight for the fans to have Indian players play in foreign leagues, but high-profile cricketers who are centrally contracted players will still not become a part of other leagues.

“Few IPL teams with a presence in leagues abroad have requested the BCCI to allow Indian players. But we have to discuss this at the AGM before coming to any conclusion. It’s good to see the growing footprints of IPL all over the world. But we should not forget that it is because of the Indian players that the IPL is so popular. It is the only league where fans can watch them play. If they start playing in other leagues, it will only increase the viewers’ fatigue,” said a BCCI official to InsideSport.
