The fans have been waiting for Virat Kohli’s come back to form for a long time and it seems that the wait is finally over for the cricket-crazy nation. The star Indian batsman has scored two back-to-back half-centuries for his team in the ongoing edition of the Asia Cup. Apart from getting his rhythm back, Kohli is in the news for his statement in a press conference after the India-Pak match and a BCCI Official hits back at Virat Kohli for the same.
There was a lot of chatter around Kohli’s stepping down as team India’s captain. Fans speculated that a conspiracy was going on against Kohli which compelled him to leave captaincy. Whatever may be the reason, the incident created a lot of buzz in the media and amongst the fans. Now, in a press conference, Kohli stated that when he left captaincy there was only one person who messaged him and a BCCI official hits back at Kohli for his remark.
Praising MS Dhoni’s humility and genuineness, Virat Kohli informed the media that it was only the former Indian captain who personally messaged Kohli and talked to him after he left captaincy. Kohli even went on to say that though many people support him in public, none of them talked to him personally at that time. This ‘lack of support’ remark has not gone down well with the Indian Cricket Board and a BCCI official hits back at Virat Kohli for his statement.
BCCI Official hits back at Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli expressed his sentiments in the press conference as he said, “When I left Test captaincy, I only received a message from one person and I have played with that person in the past. That person is MS Dhoni, anyone else did not message me. Many people have my number, and there are many people who give me suggestions on TV.”
After this statement by Kohli, a senior BCCI official told to InsideSport, “Virat has had the backing of everyone. From his teammates to everyone at the BCCI. To say that he did not get the support is not true. He was granted a break to rejuvenate, he got frequent rest. Even everyone at BCCI wished him on social media when he stepped down from Test captaincy. So, I don’t know what he is talking about.”
Team India is going to lock horns with Sri Lanka in their second Super 4 game on Tuesday which is going to be a must-win game for them. Kohli getting back in form is good news for the Indian team as they are also looking forward to the T20 World Cup which is going to be held in Australia and will commence in October.
