India’s former pacer Roger Binny was recently elected as the 36th BCCI president as he took over the responsibilities from Saurav Ganguly in October this year. Just ahead of India’s first home season under the leadership of Roger Binny, the BCCI president has got a conflict of interest notice for daughter-in-law Mayanti’s Star Sports connection.
BCCI serves a conflict of interest notice to Roger Binny
The BCCI has received a complaint from Sanjeev Gupta who has alleged that Binny is conflicted as his daughter-in-law Mayanti Langer works for Star Sports which has home season media rights for Indian cricket. Team India is currently playing against the Kiwis in New Zealand and hasn’t started the home season yet under the leadership of the new BCCI president.
As per the sources of PTI, BCCI ethics officer Vineet Saran has served a conflict of interest notice to board president Roger Binny. The former Indian pacer has been asked to file a written response by December 20 against the conflict of interest allegations levelled brought into notice against him.
“You are hereby informed that a complaint has been received under Rule 39(2)(b) of the Rules and Regulations of BCCI by the Ethics Officer, BCCI for breach of Rule 38 (1) (i) and Rule 38(2) of the said rules, constituting an instance of “conflict of interest” on your part.
“You are directed to file your Written Response to the accompanying complaint on or before 20/12/2022. The said response should be supported by a duly executed affidavit,” wrote Vineet Saran in the notice.
Mayanti Langer is married to BCCI president Stuart Binny’s son Stuart Binny and works as an anchor and broadcaster for Star Sports. Star Sports is the broadcast rights holder (TV and digital) for international fixtures in India and also domestic cricket. Roger Binny has been handed over a conflict of interest notice in this regard.
Sanjeev Gupta had earlier labelled conflict of interest allegations against Sourav Ganguly, Jay Shah, Arun Dhumal, Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid. Sanjeev Gupta had earlier targeted Roger Binny when the latter was the head of the selection committee and his son Stuart Binny was part of the Indian Team.
