Former Pakistan Captain Shahid Afridi heavily criticized Babar Azam’s ordinary mindset.
Babar Azam had stated that he was considering giving Bangladesh a target of 160 runs to reach and the veteran all-rounder was not at all pleased with this strategy.
Afridi questioned Babar Azam’s tactics against Bangladesh
Shahid Afridi was really upset with Babar Azam’s strategies as he believes that the Pakistan Captain should think big while planning of setting targets for the opponents.
“Babar must come out of this average mindset and think big. If scoring 160 runs for the target against Bangladesh was his big intent, then what is he going to do against stronger teams,” said Afridi.
The former Pakistan all-rounder clearly wanted Babar to think big while setting targets as their narrow thinking can haunt the team against stronger opponents.
On the other hand, Afridi was in full praise for the wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Rizwan, who’s also getting some criticism for lower strike rates.
While talking about Rizwan, Afridi commented, “The actual thing is the beginning. Babar and Rizwanshould score the chunk of runs [for other batters]. Rizwan shouldn’t listen to anyone,”
Both Babar and Rizwan have constantly been criticized by former players for their slow-paced innings which costed Pakistan the Asia Cup final as well.
However, Rizwan is constantly scoring big and is the top-ranked batter in the ICC rankings while Babar had a few strings of failure in recent games.
Pakistan did manage to beat Bangladesh in the said game by 21 runs and in the next game while chasing by 7 wickets.
Pakistan will now face the host New Zealand in the final of the Tri-series in Christchurch on Friday which will be the last international game for both sides before the T20 World Cup down under.
