But everything that rises fast, falls faster. Same has been the case with Warner. This season, he could score just 195 runs from 8 innings with the bat. As the side lost five out of its first 6 fixtures, Kane Williamson took over the captaincy duties and Warner was tossed out of the playing eleven.
David Warner to be released by SRH?Â
Last night’s game saw SRH dropping Kane Williamson, appointing Manish Pandey the new skipper. While the Orange Army’s fans thought that David Warner was all set for a well-deserved farewell, SRH management threw another curve-ball by picking Nabi over him.
It’s not just the cricket fans that were saddened by his omission. It affected David as well. He took to Instagram and shared a photo of himself in SRH’s jersey. The caption read, “Thank you for the memories created. To all the fans, you have been a driving force for our team always to give 100 percent. I can’t thank you all enough for the support shown. It’s been a great ride. My family and I are going to miss you all.”
While the post probably marks the end of Warner’s association with SRH, one needs to acknowledge that David is arguably the greatest IPL stalwart ever. With 5449 IPL runs under his belt, the southpaw is way ahead of more celebrated names in Gayle and Devilliers.
Add to that three orange caps (most in the history of the whole tournament) and an IPL trophy and his IPL achievements are next to none. Yes, he was well below par this season, but being left alone in the hotel room by the management and not getting a farewell game is heart-shattering to say the least.

Here’s hoping that the ‘Pocket-sized Dynamite’ comes all-guns-blazing in the next few seasons of the Indian Premier League, before he eventually retires from the league he’s made his own.
