It is now confirmed that it will be Jasprit Bumrah and not Rohit Sharma who will be leading the side in the rescheduled 5th Test of India’s Tour of England 2021. The pacer will provide his services for the team as the stand-in captain as their full-time captain Rohit Sharma has been ruled out of the contest because of COVID-19. As Bumrah gets ready for a new challenge, he shares his chat with the former Indian captain MS Dhoni.
Jasprit Bumrah to captain India
Team India has gone through a lot of ups and downs in recent times as far as their captaincy is concerned. They have had as many as 7 captains including Jasprit Bumrah leading the side. After Rohit was ruled out, Bumrah was the first choice for the captaincy role and former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh backed the bowler for the same. Ahead of his captaincy debut, Bumrah talked about his chat with MS Dhoni and shared it in a press conference.
MS Dhoni is the most successful captain in the world with all three major ICC trophies in his hand. Jasprit Bumrah talked to the legendary captain before making his debut as the skipper for the Indian team. “I remember speaking to MS, and he told me that he never captained any side before he led India for the first time. Now, he is remembered as one of the most successful captains of all time,” said the pacer in a press conference.
The rescheduled 5th Test will start from today and will see both the Top teams locking horns for a victory. While India needs to at least draw the match to win the series, England will look and try to win the match and draw the series. Jasprit Bumrah has his task cut out as this will be the first time in 15 years that the Indian team will win a Test series on English soil.

Talking about his new role in the press conference Jasprit Bumrah said, “The taste of success feels good when there is pressure. I am always up for responsibilities and I love to be in tough challenges. As a cricketer, you always want to test yourself in deep waters. I have spoken to many cricketers. Everybody improves and keeps getting better.”
