The fourth day of the Melbourne Test was nothing special for Yashasvi Jaiswal. The Indian youngster dropped not one, not two, but three catches in Australia’s second innings. The first was Usman Khawaja’s catch in just the third over, followed by Marnus Labuschagne’s catch in the 40th over at the gully, which prompted an angry reaction from Rohit Sharma. Later, in the 49th over, Jaiswal also dropped Pat Cummins.
Rohit Sharma was visibly unhappy with Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fielding, and after Marnus Labuschagne’s dropped catch, he seemed frustrated. Rohit was even seen having an animated chat with Jaiswal. However, netizens were not impressed with the captain’s behavior. Rohit faced criticism for scolding the 23-year-old Jaiswal in the middle of the field. Some X users pointed out the contrast with MS Dhoni, who was known for being calm and composed, and never losing his temper on young players like Rohit did.
Former Australian batter Mike Hussey also criticized Rohit Sharma’s reaction. “I don’t like that reaction from the Indian skipper. I appreciate he’s emotional and wants wickets, but as captain, you’re the one who has to send a message of calm and support. No one means to drop a catch, especially a young player like Jaiswal. He’ll already feel bad for letting a chance slip, especially off someone like Marnus Labuschagne,” said Hussey.

MSD's ice-cold demeanor even after dropped catches was legendary.
Rohit wears his heart on his sleeve. They way he reacted after dropped catch.
Giving a quieter reaction is art. MSD – Artist.

Talking about the match, India dismissed six Australian batters under 100 runs, thanks to Bumrah’s four-fer. However, the tailenders have frustrated India, and Australia is currently at 228/9. India will aim to break the partnership between Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland quickly. At the moment, Australia’s lead stands at 333, making it difficult for India to win this Test. However, they will try their best to secure a draw and keep their hopes for the WTC final alive.
