Viacom 18 bagged the digital rights for men’s IPL 2023-27 for ₹20,500 crore while the television rights are with Star Sports Network. Jio Cinema has left no stone unturned to push the Indian cricket fans towards choosing digital streaming over television for the upcoming season of Indian Premier League.
Jio Cinema took to Twitter and shared their first ever advertisement with Mahendra Singh Dhoni after announcing the former Indian skipper as their brand ambassador.

Earlier, after being announced as the brand ambassador of Jio Cinema, MS Dhoni had said, “I truly believe that watching sports is best enjoyed when you can catch your favourite action on-the-go or from the comfort of your own home but with interactivity, choice and personalisation, something that only a digital platform can offer.”
In the teaser released by the OTT app, MS Dhoni can be heard saying, “Arey ye boring TV hatao yaar, TATA IPL iss baar Jio Cinema pe.”
Netizens were amazed after watching the teaser as MS Dhoni is one of the most loved cricketers in India. Some of the social media users termed it as ‘Downfall of Star Sports’ as they believe announcing MS Dhoni as the brand ambassador ahead of the IPL 2023 edition will help Jio Cinema in shifting the focus from television to digital streaming.

The 2023 Indian Premier League will be held from March 31 to May 28 as MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings will take on defending champions Gujarat Titans in the first game on March 31. Jio Cinema has announced that the IPL 2023 season will be streaming in 4K UHD for free online on all the mobile networks. Viewers will also be given options to watch the Indian Premier League games from multiple camera angles in order to provide an enhanced experience for the digital audience.
