On the final day of the Headingley Test, Shardul Thakur sparked a brilliant comeback for India by taking two wickets in two balls. He got rid of the unstoppable-looking Ben Duckett for 149 and on the very next delivery, he dismissed Harry Brook for a golden duck. However, that wasn’t enough — India still needed six more wickets to win.

But soon after his heroics with the ball, Shardul was involved in a sloppy fielding moment that left Ravindra Jadeja fuming. In the 62nd over, Joe Root flicked a ball off Jadeja towards mid-on. Shardul, stationed there, ran in but slipped while trying to collect the ball. Instead of recovering quickly, he stayed on the ground for a few seconds before finally getting up and chasing it down.
What should’ve been a routine single turned into three runs after Shardul’s sloppy misfield. Captain Shubman Gill looked frustrated, but it was Jadeja who visibly lost his cool, yelling in anger at him. Shardul later appeared to blame the wet outfield for the misfield.

Speaking of the match, Ravindra Jadeja did manage to dismiss Ben Stokes after the misfield incident, but India couldn’t break through again. England chased down the target and won the first Test by 5 wickets. Rishabh Pant’s centuries in both innings went in vain, and Shubman Gill’s century on captaincy debutcame in losing cause.
