Faf du Plessis hints at returning to the South Africa team for the World Cup
One of the best batsmen in the history of South African cricket Faf Du Plessis is finally getting consideration by the South African management. With the arrival of the new head coach Rob Walter Faf’s chances of returning back into the South African colours are looking bright.
In his latest interview, Faf said “50-over cricket is a different story. Obviously, it’s a longer format. You’re on the field a lot more… We’ll cross that bridge after the IPL, moving into the latter part of the year. More than anything, we’ve spoken about the T20 World Cup next year in July, which is something we both want to make happen. That will be the focus point,”
Boucher axed Faf Du Plessis from the white-ball side of South Africa in 2020
Things were never been nice between Du Plessis and South Africa’s then-head coach Mark Boucher.
After a group stage exit in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019, Faf Du Plessis decided to step down as South African skipper in ODIs. His main focus was on playing T20 cricket and Test matches for the national side but didn’t happen because of Mark Boucher.
During the Test series against Pakistan back in 2020 their conflict started. During the first test, South Africa were having a slight lead before the day’s play. Considering only 20 minutes left in the play Faf suggested coach Boucher to send a nightwatchman instead of him.
Egotistically Mark didn’t listen to Faf and sent him to bat which later proved to be a wrong move as Faf departed just 5 minutes before stumps. Du Plessis was furious walking back into the dressing room.

“Smith and Boucher Ghosted me,” says Faf on why he didn’t play T20 World Cup 2021 and 2022
After being in sublime touch in the white ball format CSA management didn’t reach out to Faf. As Faf declared himself available for the selection in the t20i side he was waiting for Boucher and Smith to give a call-up but that didn’t happen.
Faf was axed from the white ball contract of South Africa and since then he has not been seen in the green and gold.
