IPL 2023 Auction is set to bring all sorts of thrill and drama on the table on December 23.
Amongst all the big international names there’s a 40-year old veteran Indian cricketer whose name is there in the auction list too.
Amit Mishra hopeful of getting picked in the IPL Auction
The star leg spinner Amit Mishra got great success with the Man in Blue during his peak and represented the Indian team in multiple ICC events. The leggie has grabbed 166 wickets in 154 IPL matches and is the fourth highest wicket-taker in the cash rich league.
“I have some 2-3 years of cricket left in me. I am keeping myself fit and my performance in domestic cricket last and this season have not been bad either. I am hopeful to be bought by a franchise (at this week’s IPL auction),” Mishra told PTI.
“Just look at the IPL. I being a leg spinner, along with Yuzvendra Chahal are the two most successful Indian bowlers in IPL history, the leg spinner further added.
Amit Mishra, aged 40, is the oldest player to have registered for the IPL 2023 auction amongst the 405 players who will go under the hammer on December 23 in Kochi. The veteran leg spinner played 22 Tests, 36 ODIs and 12 T20Is for the Indian team and is also the only bowler, to claim three hat-tricks in the IPL.
Mishra has represented Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers and was their go to bowler during his peak. The leggie consistently grabbed wickets right through his career before facing a decline as he played his last IPL match back in 2021 in a season where he went onto pick 6 wickets.
It’s worth noting that most of the games of IPL 2022 were played in Mumbai and Pune where there wasn’t much support for the spinners. IPL 2023 will be organised in a home and away format and pitches in cities like Delhi and Chennai will certainly help the spin bowlers. Considering his record and impact on spin-friendly tracks, Mishra can be in demand in the auction room on December 23.
