The veteran South African wicket-keeper batsman AB de Villiers has hinted at his return to the Indian Premier League from the next season. Since the inception of the IPL, this was the only season when de Villiers wasn’t a part of the Indian T20 league. However, it has now been confirmed by the man himself that he will be returning to Bangalore next year.
The former South African skipper retired from international cricket back in 2018 but went on to play the IPL for the next three years. It was after the IPL 2021 that de Villiers went on to announce his retirement from the IPL as well. The explosive right-hander had been an integral part of RCB for 11 long years and had gone on to win numerous games single-handedly for the side. Though as now he has hung up his playing boots, he might take up a new role for the side.
Ab de Villiers confirms his return to RCB next year
Virat Kohli had revealed a few days back while speaking on the RCB show that his former teammate, AB, will be joining RCB in some capacity next year. A few days later now, de Villiers has himself confirmed that he will be reuniting with his mates at RCB in the next season.
De Villiers said- “I am glad to hear Virat confirmed it. To be honest, we haven’t decided on anything yet. I will definitely be around IPL next year. I am not sure in what capacity but I am missing getting back there.” He said that he would love to return to his second home and watch the fans back in the Chinnaswamy stadium.
Mr. 360° has played a total of 156 matches for RCB and scored 4491 runs in those games. He is the second-highest run-scorer for the franchise and holds the record for the second and the third-highest individual scores in the IPL. De Villiers has had an illustrious IPL career and his numbers speak for themselves. Him rejoining the RCB setup would be of great benefit to the side as he brings invaluable experience with him.
