The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League is going to end today with the final between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders. The dose of daily cricketing action will come to an end for fans all over the world. While the Indian youth brigade stole the show with their exploits, some of the senior players were not at their best. One of the senior Indian players has left Sanjay Manjrekar unimpressed and the commentator has expressed his displeasure on the same.
Youngsters like Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Avesh Khan, Harshal Patel were the life of the 14th season of IPL. They displayed great cricketing skills and stole the thunder of the seasoned campaigners who participated in the tournament. One of the players who were disappointed in this season of IPL was Ravichandran Ashwin and his dismal performance in the league has left Sanjay Manjrekar unimpressed.
Sanjay Manjrekar unimpressed with Ashwin
Ashwin has been an automatic pick for the Indian Test team over the years and has performed exceptionally well for his side. However, the spin wizard hasn’t been able to replicate his Test performance in the limited-overs format. The same was the case in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League where the off-spinner could only claim 7 wickets in 13 matches. Delhi Capitals must have hoped for better performance from the spinner, but it was not so. This has left Indian commentator and analyst Sanjay Manjrekar unimpressed.
Manjrekar said that Ashwin in the T20s is not a great force. He also added that we have spent far too much talking about Ashwin. Manjrekar even went on to say that he would never have somebody like Ashwin in his team and would expect bowlers like Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine or Yuzvendra Chahal to get wickets. Ashwin’s performance has left Sanjay Manjrekar unimpressed so much that he wouldn’t even consider Ashwin in his team.

Little Master Sunil Gavaskar also mentioned how Ashwin miscalculated the penultimate delivery of the match against KKR. Ashwin’s limited-overs form has come under scrutiny once again after his disappointing performance in the IPL. The dip in his performance becomes crucial because of the fact that he has been selected in India’s T20 World Cup squad.
