After a long wait of 10 years, Guyana Amazon Warriors have won their maiden CPL title under the captaincy of Imran Tahir. The South African leg spinner also became the oldest captain to win a T20 league surpassing the legendary MS Dhoni.
In the CPL 2023, Guyana Amazon Warrior proved to be a dominant force for the rest of the teams as they only lost a single game in the tournament. Tahir and his men were equally good with both bat and ball which gave any other opposition no chance to stand against them.
Their batters Shai Hope and Saim Ayub were the major asset of their historical run in the tournament. Shai Hope scored 481 runs at an average of 53.1 on the other hand Saim scored 478 runs with an average ticking 43.45.
Imran Tahir became the oldest captain to win a T20 League
The master leg spinner Imran Tahir turned 44 this year in the month of March. Just 6 months later the player has achieved a rare feat by breaking the record of one of all-time greats MS Dhoni who was also his teammate for a long time in CSK.
MS Dhoni achieved the milestone during the last IPL season in which CSK became the 5-time champion of the Indian Premier League.
In the recently conducted CPL 2023 Imran Tahir led the Guyana Amazon Warriors to their first-ever title. The veteran leg spinner impressed everyone with his captaincy skills which helped Guyana display a clinical performance in the league.
The captain Imran Tahir was also the second-highest wicket taker of the tournament picking up 18 wickets only 2 wickets less than his teammate Dwaine Pretorius.
Clinical Warriors defeat Knight Riders in the Final by 9 wickets
Since the CPL 2023 began the Guyana Amazon showed all-around performance in the field which helped them win 7 out of 8 games they played in the league stage.
During the final game at the Providence Stadium GAW won the toss and elected to bowl first which proved to be the correct decision. The Trinbago Knight Riders were all out on just 94 runs courtesy of Pretorious’s 4 wickets and Tahir’s 2.
The in-form opener Saim Ayub batted sensibly and took his team home comfortably with 36 balls to spare. TKR only managed to take a single wicket while defending the pocket-size score.
