Team India’s bowling lineup has not been able to make much impact on a flat Ahmedabad pitch in the fourth test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Ravindra Jadeja convinced skipper Rohit Sharma to make a horrible DRS call against Australian opening batter Usman Khawaja after the on-field umpire called it Not Out.

Aussie opener Usman Khawaja played a heroic knock of 180 runs in the fourth test between India and Australia as he batted for five sessions making things really tough for the Indian bowling lineup.

Even the spin trio of Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel were made to toil really hard as Khawaja didn’t give them any chance to dismiss him. Team India eventually went on to make a shocking DRS call against the left-handed batter hoping to get rid of him.

On the 128th over of the Australian innings, Usman Khawaja pushed an outside off delivery bowled by Jadeja using his pads as he didn’t offer any shot. The left-arm spinner instinctively made a huge appeal but the on-field umpire gave it not out after which he convinced skipper Rohit Sharma to call for DRS.

On the giant screen, it clearly showed that the ball was missing the off-stump by a mile as the Indian team had used the Decision Review System just out of hope. This was not the first time when Rohit lost DRS trusting Jadeja’s instincts as he had done the same mistake a couple of times during the third test in Indore.

Usman Khawaja provided the kind of foundation that the Australian team was looking for. His massive partnership with all-rounder Cameron Green for the fifth wicket put the Aussie side in the driver’s seat as they posted a huge total of 480 before getting bowled out. Green too played a crucial knock of 114 runs.

After getting rid of Khawaja and Green, Team India couldn’t quickly wipe out the Australian tail as Nathan Lyon scored 34 and Todd Murphy scored 41. While the other Indian bowlers didn’t look threatening to Aussie batters, it was Ravichandran Ashwin who kept on taking wickets at regular intervals. Ashwin finished with the figures of 6 for 91 on the Ahmedabad pitch which literally had no help for the spinners as the Men in Blue had to bowl 167.2 overs to dismiss the Australian batting lineup.
