England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes became the center of attention on the opening day of the first Test match between India and England at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The 30-year-old Essex-born cricketer hogged the limelight when he accidentally rammed into all three stumps in the third session of the Test opener. The incident caught the attention of the fans, commentators and the netizens as well.
The hilarious drama unfolded during the first ball of the third over when Indian captain Rohit Sharma flicked Mark Wood’s ball away to deep square leg to open his account. As it turned out, England fielder Ollie Pope who was positioned at the region, collected the ball and threw it towards the wicketkeeper’s end. However, the throw was slightly going a tad away from Ben Foakes’ reach in the first place.

Talking about the game, England’s Test captain Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first. Their bazball approach was nowhere to be seen on Day 1 as they felt immense pressure from the Indian bowlers. England were bowled out for 246 runs in the first innings. Skipper Ben Stokes top-scored with 70 off 88 balls including 6 fours and 3 sixes. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja took three wickets apiece.

Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel took two wickets each. In reply, India got off to an excellent start as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma played a fearless brand of cricket. The duo added an 80-run stand for the opening wicket before Rohit Sharma fell prey to Jack Leach’s bowling for 24 runs. Jaiswal continued his onslaught as he chipped in with an unbeaten 76 off 70 balls including 9 fours and 3 sixes as the first day’s play came to a close. Jaiswal (76*) and Shubman Gill (14*) will resume their batting on the subsequent day as India trail by 127 runs.
