The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has firmly denied media speculation suggesting that India has opted out of the upcoming Men’s Asia Cup 2025 and the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup. Reacting to reports circulating since the morning, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia called the claims baseless and clarified that no such decision has been made in the first place.
“There has been no discussion, no communication, and certainly no decision regarding our participation in either of the ACC events,” Saikia stated, refuting suggestions that the BCCI has withdrawn from the tournaments.
BCCI dismisses rumours of India pulling out of Asia Cup 2025
Currently, the BCCI’s primary focus remains on wrapping up the ongoing edition of India’s premier T20 competition. After that, they plan on gearing up for the men’s and women’s tours of England, both scheduled for later this year. With multiple commitments lined up, the board has not yet taken a call on future ACC events.
While Saikia stopped short of making any long-term commitment, he emphasized that any official word on India’s participation in the Asia Cup or related tournaments will come only after internal discussions.
“At this point, everything being reported is purely speculative. When the time comes to discuss our involvement in any ACC event, the BCCI will make an informed announcement,” he added.
The Men’s Asia Cup tournament, which is expected to be played in the T20 format, is currently slated to take place in India. On the other hand, the Women’s Emerging Asia Cup is scheduled to be held in Sri Lanka next month. Both tournaments remain surrounded by uncertainty amid regional tensions and inconsistent reporting.

As things stand, BCCI has chosen not to rush into decisions. The richest cricket body has urged the media outlets and fans to avoid drawing conclusions in the absence of official confirmation. Any developments regarding India’s participation in ACC events will likely be communicated only after the IPL and the England tours are concluded.
India has won the Asia Cup eight times, more than any other team. They have been champions in both the ODI and T20 formats. India’s journey with the Asia Cup began in 1984, when they lifted the trophy for the first time. The Men in Blue went on to win it again in 1988, 1990–91, 1995, 2010, and 2018 in the 50-over format. On the other hand, they did superbly well in the T20I format as well, as they came out on top in 2016 and again in 2023.
