Currently, Team India is playing a three-day warm-up match against the County Select XI at the Riverside Ground, England. Ahead of the highly anticipated 5-match test series against England, this is the one-off practice game that team India has to play.
The match started on July 20. The Rohit Sharma led Indian Team won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, team India was 3 down for 67 which brought in the centurion of the first innings, KL Rahul. Rahul stabled the innings with Ravindra Jadeja and brought India into a strong position. He played a brilliant knock of 101 runs in 150 balls after which he retired out.
Ravindra Jadeja as well played a handy knock of 75 runs which was crucial for India to reach a good total. At the end of Day 1s play, India posted 306 runs on the board with the loss of 9 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah and Siraj could add only 5 runs to the total on day 2.
Though the County Select XI mainly consists of the players from the County teams of England, two Indian players as well are playing for the team. Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan are the two players.
Friendly banter between Siraj and Sundar :
The Indian left-hander, Washington Sundar after coming in to bat for the County Select XI on the Day 2 of the match, faced his first ball from Mohammed Siraj. Sundar attempted a drive but failed to connect and the bowl was received by the keeper.
As soon as Siraj ended his run-up, he deliberately went towards Sundar and was seen saying something to his Indian teammate. Sundar was not seen replying anything back to Siraj as he knew his Indian teammate was playing around.
Two overs later Sundar got out to a short delivery bowled by Mohammed Siraj. Sundar, trying to be defensive, edged the ball and Rohit Sharma caught the ball in the 2nd slip.
Currently, Team India is in the driving seat. The County Select XI is 6 down on the score of 186. The opener Haseeb Hameed is still on the crease though, batting on the score of 105.
