In a retweet, Gautam Gambhir urged Shashi Tharoor to refrain from addressing Sanju Samson as the “next of anyone.” The event unfolded when the Congress leader quoted Sanju as the next MS Dhoni of Indian cricket. Sanju’s overpowering knock against KXIP received a lot of attention, and Tharoor couldn’t wait but to call him next Dhoni.
Match Details
Kings XI Punjab posted a bounty target of 224 for RR to chase. Jos Buttler and Steve Smith opened the innings for RR. Smith gave RR a great start. However, Buttler failed to do the same as he surrendered to Cottrell for a despicable score of 4.
Buttler’s exit brought Samson into the crease. Sanju carried on his form that he had gained after a beautiful knock of 74 against CSK. Samson and Smith weaved a commanding partnership as both of them toiled KXIP bowlers with sixes and fours. Samson started his innings with a six, which was a testimony of his form and confidence. Besides, Smith also raised an excellent half-century to put RR in a commanding position.
Steve Smith departed just after raising his fifty. After Smith’s exit, Samson took the lead to make bowlers run for their money. On the other hand, Tewatia struggled to connect the bat with the ball. Nonetheless, Samson kept toiling the bowlers for sixes before Shami got the better of him. Sanju scored a match-winning knock of 85 off just 42 balls.
After Sanju’s walk back, it was redemption time for Tewatia, who hit Cottrell for five sixes. Besides, Tewatia’s bolstering fifty along with Archer’s cameo took Rajasthan Royals over the line.
Gambhir extends disagreement with Shashi Tharoor
After the nail-biting match, Shashi Tharoor tweeted while praising Sanju Samson. In the tweet, Tharoor recalled when he told Samson that he would become the next MS Dhoni of Indian Cricket.
“What an absolutely incredible win for @rajasthanroyals! I’ve known @iamSanjuSamson for a decade & told him when he was 14 that he would one day be the next MS Dhoni. Well, that day is here. After his two amazing innings in this IPL you know a world-class player has arrived,” the tweet read.

The tweet didn’t go well with Gambhir as he took to twitter to extend his disagreement with Tharoor. Gambhir’s response read, “Sanju Samson doesn’t need to be next anyone. He will be ‘the’ Sanju Samson of Indian Cricket.”
