Let us talk about the auction’s date, place and time first. So, according to a report issued by Cricbuzz- BCCI officials have confirmed that the franchise owners were recently intimated of IPL 2022 Mega auction details via IPL officials. They’ve been informed that the mega auction will be spread across two dates, namely 12 and 13 February. This means that y’all cricket geeks will be free to celebrate Valentine’s Day. Only if your situation allows it.
Much like other years, players will go under the hammer at Bangalore. Nonetheless, in case the COVID-19 situation in the nation worsens- IPL mega auctions may be shifted to United Arab Emirates. Exact time of the event isn’t confirmed but multiple sources point at a kick-off around 3:30 PM.
International cricketing boards have been requested to issue their final players list for the auction. It is expected that some thousand-odd names will get collected. Regardless, 200 to 250 players will be shortlisted according to franchises’ demand. Only the latters will partake in February 12 and 13’s action.
New franchise’s uncertain future
Everyone knows that IPL 2022 is planned to be a ten team tournament courtesy addition of two new franchises: Lucknow and Ahmedabad. RPSG owns the rights to the lucknow-based franchise, while team ahmedabad’s control lies in the hands of CVC Capital Partners.
But the future of Sanjiv Goenka’s Lucknow franchise looked bleak after SRH and PBKS had accused RPSG group of “poaching” their Rashid Khan and KL Rahul respectively. Interestingly, Goenka’s team has been given a green light. Rather, it’s ahmedabad team that is in danger.
CVCCP- the british equity and investment company that owns them- is under the scanner after Lalit Modi signalled that CVCCP “owns a big betting company.” But not enough substance supports Lalit’s claims. Therefore, Team Ahmedabad is also likely to be participating in IPL 2022.
