In a fast-paced tournament like the IPL, the batsmen have shown no mercy to the bowlers as they hammered the every good ball out of the ground for a maximum. IPL has become a batsman’s game, giving them the extra freedom to express themselves whereas the bowlers have often been on the receiving end. With fielding restrictions imposed on the bowling team in the powerplay overs, the batters are at a great advantage in piling up maximum number of runs.
Even in the non-powerplay overs, when a bowler fail to concentrate on line and length, the batsman is going to punish it like a hot knife through butter. In a tournament that is dominated by batters more often than not, there is hardly any challenge you’ll see between the batsmen and the bowlers. However, when a bowler chips in with disciplinary bowling variations, he is certain to stop the flow of runs or take wickets. Case in point, Ishant Sharma made the headlines after he bowled an unplayable yorker to Andre Russell in the DC vs KKR game of IPL 2024.
Andre Russell applauds Ishant Sharma for dismissing him with a toe-crushing yorker
During the 16th match of IPL 2024, KKR absolutely hammered DC’s bowling unit with relative ease. In the 20th over, when KKR were at 264/5, Ishant Sharma came to bowl the last over. With Andre Russell on strike, the cricket fraternity expected KKR to break SRH’s highest-ever total of 277 in IPL history. However, that wasn’t meant to be as Ishant Sharma bowled an absolute gem of a pin-point yorker to Andre Russell.

The Caribbean had no solution to counter to the delivery as the toe-crushing yorker floored him. Russell was impressed by the delivery as he applauded the experienced Ishant Sharma after his dismissal. The Caribbean scored 41 off 19 balls including 4 fours and 3 sixes. In the end, KKR mustered 272/7 in 20 overs, which is the second-highest total in IPL history.
In response, the Delhi-based franchise ran out of clues in the run-chase as they were bowled out for 166 runs. Rishabh Pant and Tristan Stubbs scored 55 and 54 runs respectively. KKR won the game by a massive margin of 106 runs and Sunil Narine was named the Man of the Match for scoring 85 off 39 (7 fours, 7 sixes) and taking 1/29 in his quota of 4 overs.
