Suresh Raina hints at joining LSG for IPL 2024 season
An X user posted the rumour of Raina joining the Lucknow franchise. The tweet read, “Suresh Raina is set to be announced as the Mentor of Lucknow Supergiants for IPL 2024. The homecoming of UP Boy.” However, a journalist named Abhishek Tripathi claimed it to be fake news. The journalist tweeted “Nihayat farzi khabar (Absolutely fake news).”
However, Suresh Raina opted to respond to Abhishek Tripathi’s dismissal of the news as fake, leaving fans in heightened suspense. Raina questioned the journalist’s confidence in stating that he would not join the Lucknow Super Giants’ coaching staff. The former Indian batter tweeted, “Why? Your news can’t be right all the time?” This could either be an indication of Raina joining the Lucknow franchise or a playful dig at the journalist, known for occasionally sharing inaccurate reports about cricketers.

Suresh Raina has been one of the most consistent players in Indian Premier League history. He was picked by the Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural season and went on to become the highest run scorer for the yellow-attired team. Southpaw’s consistent performance in the league earned him the title of Mr. IPL. However, after 2019, the career of the prolific batter went downhill.
Suresh Raina missed the IPL 2020 season due to Covid-19. In the very next season, his performance remained abysmal, with scoring only 160 runs in his 12 outings. Forcefully, CSK had to drop him from the playing XI and was handed his no.3 batting position to Robin Uthappa. Despite, CSK winning the IPL 2021 season, Suresh Raina was not retained by the MS Dhoni-led side. Adding to the surprise, no IPL franchise made a bid for him in the IPL 2022 Auction.
