The IPL 2025 playoff race is heating up, with as many as seven teams still in contention for the playoff race, and we can expect intriguing battles in the coming days. Meanwhile, there is uncertainty around the upcoming clash between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians. According to the schedule, this game is scheduled to be held in Dharamsala on May 11.
As per recent reports, the high-stakes game is likely to be shifted to Ahmedabad due to ongoing travel concerns in the region. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently working on a backup plan after air travel to and from Dharamsala was disrupted.
The disruption follows the Indian armed forces’ recent strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as part of Operation Sindoor. Several airports, including the one in Dharamsala, have been shut since Wednesday as a safety measure.
PBKS vs MI IPL 2025 match likely to be shifted to Ahmedabad
To avoid postponement or cancellation, the BCCI approached the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) with a request to host the match in Ahmedabad. “We have accepted the BCCI’s request. Now it’s up to them to confirm it,” said Anil Patel, GCA secretary, in a conversation with India Today.
Despite these challenges, Dharamsala is still set to host Wednesday’s match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. The BCCI received timely clearance from the government to go ahead with the fixture. But there’s still uncertainty over whether Sunday’s match against Mumbai Indians can be held in the same city, especially given Dharamsala’s proximity to the India-Pakistan border.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Capitals, who reached Dharamsala before the airport closure, are now dealing with a travel headache. With no flights operating, they will need to return to Delhi by road or rail for their next match against Gujarat Titans on May 11 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
On the other hand, the Mumbai Indians are waiting for the BCCI’s final decision before making any travel arrangements. Meanwhile, the match between PBKS and MI is very important for both teams as they are preparing to book a spot in the playoffs.
As of now, Punjab Kings are currently placed third on the IPL 2025 points table. They have collected 15 points from 11 matches (7 wins, 3 losses, and 1 no result due to rain). On the contrary, Mumbai Indians are right behind them in fourth with 14 points from 12 matches (7 wins, 5 losses).
Both teams need two more wins to lock in a place in the top four. But here is the twist. PBKS still have three games left. MI have only two. That makes Sunday’s game a potential make-or-break moment for the five-time champions. With the playoff picture tightening and travel uncertainty lingering, all eyes are now on the BCCI’s next move.
