On January 20 in Chandigarh, RCB avenged their defeat against Punjab Kings from just two days earlier. The previous loss had come at their home ground, Chinnaswamy Stadium, on April 18 in a rain-shortened 14-over match. But this time, thanks to Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 73-run knock, RCB cruised to a 7-wicket victory.
Horrible mixup between Kohli and Patidar causes chaos
Kohli was at the heart of the action, not just with the bat but with his emotions too. From passionately celebrating Romario Shepherd’s wicket to teasing opposition skipper Shreyas Iyer, Kohli wore his heart on his sleeve throughout the match. However, the moment that grabbed the most eyeballs was his fiery exchange with his own captain, Rajat Patidar.
In the 16th over, on the fourth delivery from Arshdeep Singh, Kohli tucked the ball toward the leg side and darted for a quick single. He completed the first run effortlessly and immediately pushed for a second, showing no hesitation. But Patidar, stationed at the striker’s end, was reluctant and kept denying the second. Kohli had already committed, forcing Patidar to abandon the safe end and run toward the danger end. Fortunately, a wild throw from the fielder allowed him to survive.

After the close call, Kohli was visibly furious and let his frustration show. Patidar, too, didn’t hold back — he responded with a frustrated hand gesture, clearly unhappy with the mix-up. Despite the tension, the moment didn’t break Kohli’s rhythm. On the very next delivery, he smashed a boundary and celebrated with fiery intensity.

Patidar was dismissed for 12 runs, but Virat Kohli held his end and, with an unbeaten 73 off 18.5 overs, steered the team to chase down a target of 157 runs. This victory marked RCB’s fifth win of the season and notably, their fifth consecutive away win, despite losing all three of their home games. With the five teams now level on 10 points, the standings based on net run rate are, in order, GT, DC, RCB, PBKS, and LSG.
