Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifted the IPL trophy. Gujarat Titans finished as runners-up. The record books will remember that. But when fans look back at IPL 2026 a few years from now, there is a good chance they will remember something else first.

They will remember young talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The Rajasthan Royals youngster entered the season carrying plenty of hype. Talented teenagers appear every year, but most need time to settle into the competition.

The IPL is unforgiving. International bowlers target weaknesses quickly, and expectations can crush young players before they truly find their feet. Sooryavanshi did not seem interested in taking things slowly.

From the opening weeks of the tournament, he played with the confidence of someone who had already spent years at the highest level. The fact that he was only 15 years old made every innings feel even more unbelievable. Fans kept waiting for a difficult phase, a loss of form, or a sign that pressure was catching up with him.

It never really arrived. By the end of the season, Sooryavanshi had scored 776 runs and collected almost every major individual honour available. He won the Orange Cap as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. He was named the Most Valuable Player.

He collected the Emerging Player award and finished with the highest strike rate among regular batters. He also cleared the boundary 72 times, setting a new IPL record for most sixes in a single season.

What made his season special was not just the numbers. It was the way he scored those runs. Many young batters enter the IPL hoping to survive. Sooryavanshi looked determined to dominate. Whether he faced experienced Indian bowlers or overseas stars, his approach rarely changed. He attacked at length early, backed his strengths, and trusted his instincts.

That mindset made him must-watch television throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, the IPL final itself almost felt secondary to the conversations happening around the youngster. RCB deserved every bit of credit for defending their title.

They handled pressure better than anyone else and finished the season as worthy champions. Yet even during the celebrations, discussions quickly returned to Sooryavanshi and what his future might hold.

That says a lot. Normally, a title-winning team owns the headlines after the final. This time, a player from a non-finalist team managed to steal much of the spotlight. Very few cricketers can do that.

Of course, one great season does not guarantee a legendary career. Cricket history is filled with players who started brilliantly before struggling with expectations. The challenge for Suryavanshi begins now. Opponents will study his game more closely. Every innings will attract attention. Every failure will generate headlines.

But that is a challenge for another day. For now, IPL 2026 will be remembered as the season a 15-year-old changed what people thought was possible in the world’s biggest T20 league. RCB may have won the trophy, but Vaibhav Sooryavanshi became the story of the tournament.
