Team India’s former opener Aakash Chopra has come up with a bold statement regarding Virat Kohli’s ‘Fake Fielding.’
Aakash Chopra believes that there was an attempt made by Virat Kohli to deceive the batters and hence it was surely an attempt of fake fielding.

Aakash Chopra has made a bold comment on Virat Kohli’s act as he believes it doesn’t matter whether the batters were deceived or not, if there’s an attempt to deceive the batters then it qualifies as ‘Fake Fielding.’
“Woh fake fielding tha, 100% tha, wo jo throw marne ka prayas kia wo agar umpire dekhte toh 5 run ki pentaly padti humko aur 5 run se hum match bhi jeete. (Yes that 100% fake fielding because of the way he attempted to throw the ball. If the umpires had seen it then we would’ve been slapped with a five-run penalty and we’ve won by five runs only.) So we escaped here but next time if someone does this then the umpires will have to be more careful. So are Bangladesh right? Yes, they are but nobody noticed it then so can’t do anything now,” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
According to Cricket’s law 41.5,”it is unfair for any fielder wilfully to attempt, by word or action, to distract, deceive or obstruct either batter after the striker has received the ball.” Hence any gesture like faking a dive or a throw made by any fielder qualifies as fake fielding and the fielding side can be penalized five runs for the act.
The incident is from the second ball of the 7th over of the Bangladesh chase when Arshdeep Singh threw a ball from the deep point towards wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik. Virat Kohli was fielding at the point and made a gesture of throwing the ball towards the non-striker even when the ball was nowhere close to him.

Bangladesh didn’t have any impact of this gesture as they easily completed the second run. The controversy was sparked when Bangladesh keeper Nurul Hasan said that Virat’s act should have been judged as fake fielding and five runs penalty should have been imposed to the Indian Team.
