Jimmy Neesham is quite a popular name on social media now. The Kiwi player keeps his fans posted with hilarious posts which the fans enjoy greatly. The Kiwi all-rounder was at it again as he posted a humorous tweet after the Euro Cup 2021 final. The post was an indirect dig at ICC, but Neesham made sure that he doesn’t create any controversy.
The Euro Cup final was played between England and Italy and the match was an entertaining one. Even after a tough battle of 120 minutes, there was no clear winner as both the team finished 1-1 after the full time. According to the rules, if a knockout game ends in a draw, two halves of 15 minutes are further given. However, if none of the team is victorious even after the extra time, the winner is decided after a penalty shootout.
Jimmy Neesham’s dig at ICC after Euro 2021 Final
It was this rule that Jimmy Neesham pointed out in his tweet. The all-rounder said that the winner should be decided based on the number of passes each team made and not through a penalty shootout. Interestingly, Italy had 820 passes whereas England only had 426 passes to their name. To avoid any controversy, the left-handed batsman ended the tweet with #joking with a laughing emoji.
The fans were quick to notice that the tweet was an indirect taunt for ICC which used boundary count to decide the ICC World Cup winner in the 2019 edition. It was a real heartbreak for the Kiwi players and the fans alike when they were so close to the ICC Trophy but lost because of the boundary count rule.
Why is it a penalty shootout and not just whoever made the most passes wins? 👀 #joking 😂
