Young Indian batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal made up his mind to switch his base from Mumbai to work with Goa for the upcoming domestic season, a surprising development that has indeed raised several eyebrows.
Amid this move, several others have been figuring out what could potentially have happened behind the scenes. Meanwhile, reports have now shed light on the reasons behind this bold step. Jaiswal, who acquired a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), was reportedly growing frustrated with Mumbai cricket over the past couple of years.
Strained relationship with Ajinkya Rahane?
The 23-year-old’s ties with Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane had been deteriorating for quite some time, as per an India Today report. The friction between the two cricketers arose in 2022 when Rahane, skippering West Zone, sent Jaiswal off the field on the account of disciplinary reasons.
The left-handed aggressive opener was engaged in sledging against Ravi Teja during a Duleep Trophy match, which did not go well with captain Rahane, leading to stern action against the youngster.
The situation turned from bad to worse during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when Jaiswal was slammed for his shoddy shot selection. While some of the feedback was attested, the Rajasthan Royals player felt he was unfairly targeted by the team management, which added fuel to the fire.
Actually, things reached a boiling point in the last season during a Ranji Trophy match between Mumbai and Jammu & Kashmir. Mumbai endured an unexpected defeat despite the presence of Rohit Sharma and Jaiswal at the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC). The youngster scored 4 runs in the first innings and then followed it up with 26 runs in the second innings.
Jammu & Kashmir got the better of Mumbai by 4 wickets. In the wake of the match, head coach Omkar Salvi and captain Rahane targeted Jaiswal for poor performance in the game. Following that, Jaiswal reportedly kicked Rahane’s kitbag, an incident that potentially hinted at the breaking of all bridges between the two.
