Rashid Khan will lead the MI Cape Town franchise in the inaugural season of the SA20 League set to be organized in January 2023. On the other hand, MI Emirates have named Kieron Pollard as their captain for the inaugural season.
Mumbai Indians-owned franchises announce their captains for the inaugural season of SA20 & ILT20
International League T20 (ILT20) and South Africa-based SA20 will be played between January and February 2023. The Mumbai Indians group has bought a franchise in each of the International League T20 (ILT20) and SA20, naming them MI Emirates and MI Cape Town, respectively.
Rashid Khan will be leading MI Cape Town in SA20 while Kieron Pollard will be the skipper of MI Emirates both the teams being owned by Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai Indians group. Both Rashid and Pollard have experience of leading their national sides at the international level for a brief period.
Rashid Khan leaded the Afghanistan side for two Tests, seven ODIs and seven T20Is while Pollard has experience of captaining the Indies side in 24 ODIs, 34 T20Is. Pollard has experience of leading the Mumbai Indians side in the Indian Premier League as well.
SA20 will begin on January 10, 2023, in South Africa while The International League T20 will be played from January 13 to February 12 in the UAE. Both MI Cape Town and MI Emirates have included experienced T20 stars in their squads in order to try and achieve the kind of glory Mumbai Indians have got in IPL.
Jofra Archer is possibly the most significant name in MI Cape Town side while Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Kagiso Rabada and Rassie van der Dussen are some other stars set to represent the Mumbai Indians-owned franchise. On the other hand, MI Emirates have included the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Nicholas Pooran, Trent Boult and Imran Tahir.
Mumbai Indians is looking to rule global cricket leagues and have also overhauled their support staff. Mahela Jayawardene and Zaheer Khan have been rewarded for their consistent results with Mumbai Indians and have been moved to the position of global head of performance and global head of cricket development respectively.
